Kindergarten – 3rd Grade
The primary years are built upon the preschool foundation. Our program takes the fundamentals of READING, WRITING, and ARITHMETIC to a new level. Children are nurtured in an environment that fosters a love for learning, develops critical thinking skills, and encourages creativity. At First Foundations, we understand that these early years are crucial for establishing a strong academic base. We provide tailored, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that cater to each child’s unique needs, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future educational journey. By emphasizing hands-on activities, interactive play, and engaging lessons, we help children build confidence in their abilities and instill a lifelong passion for discovery.
The Beginning of Formal Years of Education
FFP is committed to strengthening early literacy by providing developmentally appropriate, research-based phonics and writing instruction for students in kindergarten through third grade. These activities are delivered in a supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, confidence, and academic growth.
The “Secret Codes” program is grounded in the Science of Reading and explicitly teaches the structure of the English language to help students decode, comprehend, and produce written text. Instruction targets critical components of early literacy, including phonological and phonemic awareness, reading skills, vocabulary development, written expression, and punctuation. Through systematic, intentional instruction, students build the foundational skills needed for long-term reading proficiency and academic success.
At First Foundations, we believe a strong foundation in SEAM—Science, Engineering, Art, and Math—is essential for a child’s overall development and future success. Although Technology is a part of STEAM, we have chosen not to prioritize this in our class. Our goal is to encourage our children to interact with one another. Our curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning through hands-on experiments and playful exploration. For example, students might build a bridge from popsicle sticks and estimate how many cars it can hold before collapsing. It’s not just about having fun; it’s about developing critical thinking skills and creativity. We will also experiment with various art mediums as we create masterpieces.
In the primary years of education, we cover the exciting and engaging events of our country’s history. Each grade covers a specific region of our country and expands its knowledge each year. Our little learners embark on thrilling adventures as they engage in storytelling sessions that bring historical figures to life, participate in creative art projects inspired by different historical events, and enjoy interactive games that teach them about the state’s diverse cultures. Children can explore the history of our shared home, fostering a deeper connection to their roots by learning about America’s past, present, and future.
At First Foundations Primary, group activities are intentionally designed to support the social, emotional, and interpersonal development of primary-age students. These structured learning experiences promote collaboration, communication, and peer engagement while reinforcing age-appropriate social skills essential for long-term success.
Through guided group interaction, students learn to express ideas, listen to others, problem-solve, and build positive relationships. These experiences foster a sense of belonging and mutual respect, laying the foundation for healthy interpersonal relationships both in and beyond the classroom.
Guided by Christ-centered values, First Foundations Primary creates a nurturing and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to treat one another with kindness, respect, and empathy—reflecting the principles of the Golden Rule. This supportive setting ensures that every child feels valued, safe, and empowered to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
We believe in nurturing the whole child through a vibrant and engaging curriculum that beautifully weaves together music, Spanish, physical education, and chapel. Our music program continues to build on our fundamentals of steady beat, Dynamics, Tempo, and Rhythm while introducing the Kodály system, Note names and values, and creating rhythms together. Building from one year to the next, the children learn to identify note values through listening, to introduce harmony through singing, and to perform folk dances.
Spanish class continues to teach not only words but also phrases. They also begin to learn Spanish vocabulary and read Spanish words and phrases.
Meanwhile, our physical education sessions promote health, teamwork, and the joy of movement, encouraging children to develop physically and socially as they play together.
And let’s not forget our chapel time, where we instill moral values and foster a deep sense of community, all centered around Christ’s love. These programs provide a nice change of pace and new ways of thinking outside the box.
