Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
The primary years are built upon the preschool foundation. Our program takes the fundamentals of READING, WRITING, and ARITHMETIC to a new level. Children are nurtured in an environment that fosters a love for learning, develops critical thinking skills, and encourages creativity. At First Foundations, we understand that these early years are crucial for establishing a strong academic base. We provide tailored, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that cater to each child’s unique needs, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future educational journey. By emphasizing hands-on activities, interactive play, and engaging lessons, we help children build confidence in their abilities and instill a lifelong passion for discovery.
The Beginning of Formal Years of Education
FFP continues to nurture young minds by emphasizing the importance of foundational literacy skills. Our phonics and writing activities are designed specifically for kindergarten through 2nd grade, creating a warm and supportive environment where learning flourishes. “Secret Codes,” based on the Science of Reading, unlocks the mystery behind the written word. The components focus on Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, and Punctuation Symbols.
At First Foundations, we believe a strong foundation in SEAM—Science, Engineering, Art, and Math—is essential for a child’s overall development and future success. Although Technology is a part of STEAM, we have chosen not to prioritize this in our class. Our goal is to get our children interacting with each other. Our 1st-grade curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning through hands-on experiments and playful exploration. For example, students might build a bridge out of popsicle sticks and hypothesize how many cars it can hold without collapsing. It’s not just about having fun; it’s about developing critical thinking skills and creativity. We will also experiment with various art mediums as we create masterpieces.
In the primary years of education, we cover our country’s history’s exciting and involved events. Each grade covers a specific part of our country and expands their knowledge yearly. Our little learners embark on thrilling adventures as they engage in storytelling sessions that bring historical figures to life, participate in creative art projects inspired by different historical events, and enjoy interactive games that teach them about the state’s diverse cultures. Children can explore the history of where we live together, fostering a deeper connection to their roots by learning America’s past, present, and future.
At First Foundations Primary, we wholeheartedly believe that group activities for our kindergarten through 2nd-grade friends are not just about learning—they’re about growing! These delightful experiences are designed to spark joy and laughter while nurturing essential social skills. As children collaborate, communicate, and share their vibrant ideas, they’re building friendships and laying the groundwork for strong, future interpersonal relationships. Our Christ-centered values guide us in creating a warm and nurturing environment where every child feels supported…it’s the Golden Rule!
We believe in nurturing the whole child through a vibrant and engaging curriculum that beautifully weaves music, Spanish, physical education, and chapel together. Our music program continues to build on our fundamentals of steady beat, Dynamics, Tempo, and Rhythm while introducing the Kodaly system, Note names, values, and creating rhythms together. Building from one year to the next, the children learn to identify note values through listening, the introduction of harmony through singing, and folk dances.
Spanish class continues to teach not only words but also phrases. They also begin to pick up Spanish vocabulary and start reading words and phrases in Spanish.
Meanwhile, our physical education sessions promote health, teamwork, and the joy of movement, encouraging children to develop physically and socially as they play together.
And let’s not forget our chapel time, where we instill moral values and foster a deep sense of community, all centered around Christ’s love. These programs provide a nice change of pace and new ways of thinking outside the box.
